When activism meets crafting, my heart/brain practically explode. Such an amazing way to commemorate missing and murdered indigenous women, and you can get involved right on our own campus. Wow!

Indigenous Achievement at U M will be hosting a Beading Club to support Christi Belcourt’s initiative “Walking with Our Sisters: A Commemorative Art Installation for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women of Canada.” http://www.christibelcourt.com/WalkingWithOurSistersABOUT.html

When: Every Tuesday starting April 2, 2013 to May 28, 2013 (8 weeks)
Where: Circle Room, Migizii Agamik – Bald Eagle Lodge, Fort Garry Campus, U of M
Time: 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm
Costs: Free. Beading instruction and supplies will be provided up to 20 individuals. If you have your own beading supplies, feel free to join the group.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME (from beginners to advanced beaders). The first class (April 2) will focus on ‘getting started.’ This Beading Club is time for us to reflect, share stories, and learn a traditional craft.

And another friendly reminder- there is a rally today at the legislature at 3 pm in support of Bill 18 (see our post below).

AND there is yet another rally in support of Bill 18 on Saturday at 1pm, also at the Legislature!

There has been a wee bit of confusion about this, but both rallies are indeed pro-Bill 18. So there are lots of opportunities to get out and show your love for this important piece of legislation. It’s not very often you get your choice of rally times for the same issue! All the more reason to pick a time and go!

Faced with falling crime rates, all levels of government are insisting that more punishment is what is needed when the evidence shows otherwise. Three mythbusters talk crime, punishment, and imprisonment in Canada.
