“Seeing a pregnant wom[a]n smoking a cigarette, imbibing a glass of wine or using drugs is sure to raise a societal eyebrow.
But a new report says women with substance abuse problems should be treated with compassion by health providers and society at large, especially during pregnancy, because addiction is a brain disorder and not a personal failing.”
I thought this study was interesting, because I think we often talk about the ridiculousness of victim blaming in sexual assault cases, (and by “we” I mean the FLF. We do have a lot of articles on victim blaming and sexual assaults) but I don’t think we have ever really had an article that looks at not blaming women who are addicted to drugs etc while pregnant, because they are victims of their addictions too. Anyway some food for thought, let us know your thoughts.
